Freedom – Freiheit

After a horrible four weeks inside we finally opened the door to the porch so the cats could take their first real sniff at freedom.

Lilly seemingly couldn’t really believe it. She stormed to the door, went through, walked around and ran back in. Maunzerl was a bit confused at first but definitely curious.

Lilly’s second attempt involved snow and resulted in an immediate return to the safety of our living room. In her third attempt she made it all the way to the garage by walking alongside the house where the snow was already melted as Maunzerl was looking on, not quite daring to follow her yet. We have happy cats now.

Nach vier schrecklichen Wochen haben sich die Türen zur Terasse endlich geöffnet und die Miezen hatten Gelegenheit den Duft der Freiheit zu schnuppern.

Lilly konnte ihr Glück kaum fassen. Sie rannte zur Tür und hinaus, stolzierte schnuppernd auf der Terasse herum und rannte zurück in die Sicherheit des warmen, molligen Wohnzimmers. Maunzerl war zuerst irritiert aber absolut neugierig.

Lilly’s zweiter Versuch beinhaltete Schnee und resultierte darin, dass Sie sich sofort wieder nach drinnen verzog. Der dritte Versuch war dann wesentlich gewagter. An der schneefreien Hauswand entlang bis zur Wassertonne an der Garage und das Maunzerl schaute ihr gebannt hinterher, traute sich jedoch nicht wirklich aus der Tür. Fakt ist: wir haben jetzt glückliche Katzen.

Both cats are now at home and are peacefully sleeping in their usual spots.

Beide Katzen sind nun sicher zu Hause und schlummern friedlich auf ihren gewohnten Schlafplätzen.

Granted, this picture is at least two weeks old but as I looked out the window this morning, the same picture presented itself and I know what I’m going to be doing later.

We have moved

Finally, moving day has come and gone and we are in the new house. We have no internet or telephone yet, so I'm typing this on my phone. The move was stressful and a few things were subpar but we got all the furniture moved. The cats were totally stressed out in the new house and it will take another couple of days for them to settle in. Come to think of it, the same is true for the humans. As the living quarters are nothing to write home about (just yet), I will post the progress in the bathroom.

Day 24 – Tag 24

Yesterday, the hubby along with Christian and Katie’s hubby went to work and boy did they get a lot done. We are so grateful to call such great friends our own. Their help goes above and beyond anything we ever expected and without them we wouldn’t even be close to where we are now at this stage in the project. Thank you guys!

Gestern sind der Lieblingsmann, gemeinsam mit Christian und Katie’s Lieblingsmann weiterhin im Haus zur Tat geschritten und Mann oh Mann haben die drei viel geschafft. Wir können uns wirklich glücklich schätzen solche Freunde ‘unser’ zu nennen. Ihre Hilfe geht weit über das Normalmaß hinaus und ohne Sie wären wir nicht, wo wir heute wären. Vielen, vielen Dank Leute!

Sad news

Last night we received the sad news that hubby's grandma has passed away. She was a great woman and we're inconsolable.

She will be sorely missed!

Things are moving forward

We kinda lost track counting the days and a lot has been happening. The hubby went to see his grandma in hospital and things are looking grim. At the moment she is in a coma and not expected to wake up again. Needless to say that we’re very sad indeed..

Wir haben den Überblick über die vergangenen Tage verloren und eine Menge ist passiert. Der Lieblingsmann hat seine Oma im Krankenhaus besucht und es sieht leider gar nicht gut aus. Sie liegt im Koma und wir haben keine große Hoffnung mehr. Unnötig zu sagen, dass wir mehr als traurig sind…

Still, things need to keep moving in the house. Moving day is approaching fast. This coming Saturday to be exact and to date we have no finished room that we could move into. The wife’s parents and Katie and her hubby made time to help out over the weekend and together we got a lot of things done. Thank you soooo much guys.

Trotzdem müssen die Dinge im Haus weitergehen. Der Umzugstag nähert sich schneller als uns lieb ist. Diesen Samstag, um genau zu sein und bislang haben wir kein Zimmer in das wir ohne weiteres einziehen könnten. Die Eltern der Lieblingsfrau und Kati und ihr Lieblingsmann haben sich am Wochenende freigemacht, um uns wie wild zur Hand zu gehen. Gemeinsam haben wir eine Menge geschafft. Danke, danke, danke and Euch alle.

On Sunday we also managed to paint the bedroom, which took less than two hours with four people. Yay us.

Am Sonntag haben wir es auch geschafft das Schlafzimmer zweimal zu streichen. Der Trockenbau ist trotz Tiefgrund sehr durstig. In zwei Stunden waren wir mit vier Leuten aber durch. Yay.

Blöderweise ist die Farbe nach dem ersten Anstrich im Gästezimmer an einigen Stellen wieder abgeblättert. Sieht aus, als ob darunter verspachtelte Stellen von Jack und Jill’s Flickwerk zum Vorschein kommen.

Today the hubby and our former roommate and dear friend Christian laid the floors in the bedroom. Thank you for all your help.

Heute haben der Lieblingsmann und unser ehemaliger Mitbewohner und lieber Freund Christian Laminat im Schlafzimmer gelegt. Danke für Deine Hilfe Christian.

Update

Sometimes something or someone throws a spanner in the works and life sucks. The hubby’s lovely grandma had to undergo surgery earlier this week and we thought she’d soon be on the road to recovery. Wednesday night I came down with flu like symptoms. Juuust great. I have not been in the house since Tuesday. My parents planned on coming down for the weekend to help out with spackling and painting the walls, when the hubby got a call that his grandma was doing worse and may not live through the night. He did the only right thing by getting in the car and driving to see her. Please keep her in your prayers.
